What could be causing an audio problem on my PS3?

This thing is new and should not be breaking yet!

Make sure that you check the cables of the PS3. Most likely if you just got the PS3 there would be a problem with the wires or with the television. Try a cable channel and see if you have good audio problems. If none of this works you can probably return the PS3 for a full refund or replacement.

Make sure your audio output settings are correct for your set up. Make sure all your cables are secure, and test the sound with another source besides the PS3 too.

It can be as simple as your TV is muted or very low volume or your red/white/yellow cable or HDMI cable came slightly loose either from your PS3 or TV.

To begin off with, is your PS3 connected via HDMI cable? If it is, go to the local store and buy another HDMI cable, because some gold tipped or even silver tipped HDMI cables are not working properly. If it is connected with the 3 colored wires, just try to see if your TV can output any audio.

The most common fault is that the cables connecting the two devices are not connected properly, either being loose or connected to the wrong sockets on one of the devices.

All the only problems I've had with sound were from a loose cable and forgetting to switch the sound to multi-out when i hook it to my stereo.
