I have a charcoal gray pair of pants and I have found that my cashmere , front button, sweater gets the most compliments. It is black, has a v-neck, and short waisted.
I have always consider light blue or soft pink a perfect compliment for charcoal gray. If you need to be ultra conservative you will look good in a very very light shade of gray - such as a pearl gray. Charcoal is a soft color and shouldn't be paired with a sharp or shockening color.
