The earths cycle of seasons are due to two reasons; the earths orbit around the sun and the earths tilt of 23 degrees on its axis thats either towards or away from the sun.
Because the earth is close to the sun and is titled on an 'axis' and therefore at certain times of the year it tilts more towards the sun than other times. So therefore is hotter at certain times than others.
