If the swelling if accompanied by pus or bumps, then it is something more serious and you should see a dentist as soon as possible.

Most likely there is something tiny in between your teeth. You need to use dental floss between every tooth very thoroughly. It will probably hurt, but the next day the pain should be gone for good.

The most common cause of swollen gums is bacteria that gets into the gums. Swelling can also be caused by brushing to hard or flossing to hard. Brush gently and try a mouthwash containing gingivitis fighting intgredients. If the swelling doesn't go down after a few days contact a dentist for evaluation. I could be gum disease.

If you do not frequently bursh the teeth these type of gum problems arise. You must use mouth wash regularly after having food every time.
