What causes lines on the top of my TV?

Usually, this is some kind of electrical interference. You should make sure there's nothing like a lamp or cordless telephone near to the TV. Also, try switching the TV off at the wall socket for half an hour. This is known as deguassing the set, and removes any stuck pixels.

Horizontal hold on an old TV will cause this. Do you have rabbit ears for an antenna? The converter box for your cable TV could also be experiencing interference. If you leave in more rural and mountain areas, just the general reception could be bad.

This is caused by the beam from the picture tube having shifted or the screen itself having shifted. A repair technician can realign it. If you have an LCD screen, this could be from watching too many movies with a black bar at the top and bottom in "movie mode".

It is possible you are experiencing cable/reception problems. However, it is also possible there is a problem with the television. Possibly something in the horizontal or vertical circuit, but it is impossible to tell without a professional looking at it. Would suggest calling cable or changing out your antenna first.

The lines on a television are caused by both signal interference, disruption or occasionally problems with the telvision monitor it's self.

If you're referring to the "black bars" that are sometimes found at the top and bottom of your screen when watching a movie or the like, it generally means you're trying to view something that is formatted for a widescreen tv on a non-widescreen setup. Is this the problem or not?

They are from your TV picture not balanced. Using the tv's remote, click the tracking button as many times as necessary to remove the lines.
