It is a painful condition where the intestine is inflamed and irritated and/or infected. Eating some foods can aggravate the condition, while fiber is needed--don't make it too rough, i.e. avoid nuts, or popcorn, etc. Also don't sit at one's desk too long in one position. Check diet with doctor.

Diverticulitis arises secondarily to a condition called diverticulosis. In diverticulosis, little pouches are formed in the wall of the large intestine. These can get inflamed and painful causing diverticulitis. Diverticulosis is believed to be caused by eating a diet low in fiber. Adding fiber to your diet may prevent the condition from worsening.

Diverticulitis only occurs in people who have diverticulosis.Diverticulosis is usually caused by a low fiber diet. For treatment of diverticulitis antibiotics will be prescribed. An acute attack with severe pain or infection may require a hospital stay so that the antibiotics can be given into a vein.If a complication happens you may even require surgery.
