Start at the valve stem. Mark the rim, so you know where you started. tighten every fourth spoke 1/4-1/2 turn until you reach the mark. Move one spoke clockwise and repeat. It is important to only tighten 1/4-1/2 turn at a time to ensure you do not pulling the rim out of true.

Tightening a spoke does a lot of things, but the most important thing it does is it affects the trueness of the rim, and you should use a spoke wrench and when its tight you can tone it with a screwdriver and wrench, if you click the spoke it will tone (ring), instead of sounding flat.

It possible use the spoke wrench that came with the bike. Use the valve stem as a starting point, and go all the way around the wheel, tightening every other spike. Just turn them until they are firm - you don't want them too tight because that could cause damage to the wheel. Experts suggest checking spokes before every ride.
