This is a delightful, easy read. The plot involves a family whose daughter has left for the Peace Corps. The parents decide to take their usual holiday expenditures and roll the cash into a cruise: this is a disappointment to the neighbors and usual party attendees. Then the daughter comes home. It's funny, poignant and a parable all in one.

This title is a departure for Grisham, who is famous for his legal thrillers. The book tells the story of a middle-aged couple who, realizing that for the first time they have no kids at home for Christmas, decide to take a cruise and just "skip" Christmas. The idea is not well received. The story is satirical and subtly funny.

Skipping Christmas is one of Grisham's shortest works, and almost one of his most amusing, and a departure from his usual lawyerly works. It's a very quick and easy read, but is also rather seasonal, so the humor and context might not be great outside of wintertime. It was made into a moving starring Tim Allen recently.

This book is basically about a husband and wife who decide to skip Christmas since their adult daughter will not be home for the holidays. They end up irritating their entire neighborhood due to their decision. The daughter ultimately decides to come home for Christmas and the parents must scramble to find holiday decorations and food from their neighbors.

It's completely different to his usual style. A middleaged couple try to opt out of Christmas, as their daughter is working abroad, & book a cruise. Doesn't work out though!
