Talk to the administration and then arrange a meeting with your son's team. Depending on his needs, his program will be tailored specifically, with time spent in various areas. Arrange regular updates as needed, and keep communication open to be an effective partner in these efforts.

You will work with the school to create an Individualized Education Plan that addresses your son's specific needs. A panel, which might include his teachers, psychologist, physicians, social worker and/or school administration, will cooperate to create the IEP. The plan will be highly individualized based on his needs, so it's difficult to say what it might include.

It depends upon the type of special education your son needs from mild to severe, and if you are talking about mental, developmental, or physical. At this age most students IEP's are still developing and expanding as yet a full spectrum of tests cannot be done yet due to their age development.

Kids that young are usually only at school for a half day. They will be in very small class sizes and the curriculum involves learning to take turns, follow rules, and deal with your frustration properly.

This depends on where you live, and what your boy's needs are. You need to get the school system to listen to you and get someone to advocate for you.
