People have varying degrees of pain sensitivity, but in general any place that is close to bone and has little muscle between the needle and said bone is going to hurt more than some where else.

What is more or less painful varies by person. If you're ticklish, there's a good chance that a rib cage tattoo will hurt more than an arm or back piece.

Whether a tattoo id painful or not depends on the individual more than the area being tatted. In general, the closer the skin is to the bone, the more pain one can expect. However that doesn't mean that a fattier section won't hurt just as much.

Anytime that you are getting a tattoo on a bone, meaning the needle is hitting bone, there is a higher level of pain. Still doable, but a little more painful.
