Porcelain tile is made out of ceramic vinyl tile is made out of a type of plastic and is not as durable.

Porcelain tile are most often glazed to a high finish on the outer side and can be easily dyed for good solid colors. They are however more fragile that tiles made of marble, slate or ceramic. They are easier to cut for custom jobs but can chip easily.
