Money in a Health Savings Account can be used for maternity medical costs, such as child birth. It can also be used for the child, including any well child doctor visits. It does not cover day to day living expenses while on maternity leave. It can be used to pay for over the counter medications for mother and child.

Health Spending Accounts typically offer basic maternity coverage, such as payment for prenatal care, delivery, and hospital fees. However, if there are any complications with a pregnancy, the HSA may not reimburse the patient or pay for the services on the patients' behalves. Consider contacting your health carrier to take out a maternity rider if you are a high-risk mother-to-be.
