Acute chorioamnionitis is an infection of the placental membranes often caused by group b strep. Acute funisitis is an infection of the umbilical cord usually due to a uterine infection.

Acute chorioamnionitis is swelling of the fetal membranes caused by bacterial infection. Funisitis is the swelling of the umbilical cord. The first can lead to the second.

Acute chorioamnionitis is where the two membranes of the placenta is infected with one or more microbes although associated with Strep B. Acute funisitis is an inflammation of the umbilical cord that is usually due to an infection inside the uterus. This is usually associated with Listeria, yeast, Actinomyces, HSV, and Syphilis infections.

That means an infants membranes are affected and the latter is an infection of the uterus cord that is connected to the baby.

Acute chorioamnionitis and funisitis are acute infections affecting and seen in the placental tissues. This condition is not uncommon and generally does not mean other severe complications will be seen.

Mostly the acute chorioamniontis and acute funisitis would be caused by the acute inflammatory response in fetal adnexa, it could be caused by bacterial infection in umbilical cord. It also cause severe inflammation of umbilical cord.
