Hypothyroidism requires life long treatment. There is no cure. To treat hypothyroidism, synthetic thyroid tablets are used to help balance thyroid levels. Children require larger does then adults. Depending on ones thyroid levels, one might have to consume more medicine than others.

Strictly speaking, it is not curable. Typically, hypothyroidism is a symptom or a condition that results in other things going on with the child. If a child has an under performing thyroid due an auto-immune disorder or metabolic syndrome, thyroid function is expected to return to normal when those resolve.
