If your key is broken, you're going to have a hard time getting it out. Have you made sure that you have the gearshift in park?

On my 1990 Nissan pickup truck, the key gets stuck, and the solution is simple: You turn the wheel while pulling on the key. If this doesn't work, the key, or the tumbler may be worn down. If you are mechanically inclined, fiddle with the ignition, if not, you probably will need to see a mechanic.

Try hitting the housing with your hand. You most likely have some broken tumblers or springs that are worn. You are gooing to need a new ignition cylinder which will run you around $100 bucks or so.

Most likely, the shifter needs to be replaced. The shifter is making the key stick. Also, a tumbler in the key mechanism may have come loose. The micro switch in the shifter may be faulty. It could be due to any of these reasons and could cost a couple hundred dollars to fix.

I would drive jeep to a mechanic, because that can be serius problem and if you try to do anything by yourself you could make it worst. You could broke a key and key would stay inside, that would be a big problem. It can be just some small problem, but you never know.. sorry for bad English..

Check your electrical system. Start by checking your battery and to make sure it full. Make sure all your fuse are fine. Then check all of your wiring and connections.

The best thing to do is to make sure the car is completely in park. If you hit the brake and shift through the gears and put it back into park the key should come out.
