A reinstall would work best. Remove the program and reinstall it if you still have the CD's. Otherwise, go to the control pane and select Add/Remove programs, then try a repair if it gives you the option.

Do you get an error when you try to open it or does it simply not open? If it's the latter, you could try using CTRL+ALT+DEL and go to the Processes tab, then sort the tasks by name and end the task called WINWORD. Exe. Or you could download OpenOffice.

I strongly recommend first check the task manager to see if it is not responding. Next, restart the computer and try again. Verify whether other installed MS Office products open or not. If not, you may need to reinstall the MS Office package.

It may be a problem with your installation. Put in your Office CD and repair the installation. Make sure to use the same Office version that is already installed. Other than that, you can search online if you are getting a specific error message. There may be specific fixes available from Microsoft.
