The worst thing that anyone can do is to over water a plant. This will make them grow but not produce flowers. Water well once a week only. To make your plant bloom, pinch off the center, top of plant. This will cause the plant to spread out and bloom.

You want to make sure plants are not located in too shady of an area. You also do not want to give them a fertilizer with too much nitrogen. Flower buds can also fall of if there is a late frost. You can try a high bloom fertilizer such 10-52-10.

You could apply a flower fertilizer to it in the spring. These plants like to have lots of nutrients and minerals that they probably will not get in normal soil.

Make sure it is planted in the correct area and getting filtered light. Too much pruning will eliminate flowers. Pruning times depend on the variety. Frost can cause this, also.

First be sure not to cut them down in the Fall. Hydrangeas bloom on last years' growth so those bare sticks must stay there all winter. You will see them "plump up" at their ends in the Spring. If you live in a severely cold climate use the leaves, newspaper, etc. to mulch around the roots in the winter.
