Your tongue is an amazing organ and will generally heal itself quite quickly. Avoid eating or drinking excessively sweet, salty, or acidic items as these can cause the cut to be more painful. Other than that, avoid playing with or biting the injury and it should heal soon.

The tongue heals pretty quick and there really is not a whole lot to be done for it. You can suck on some ice to help numb and reduce swelling.

The saliva produced in your mouth itself is a best medicine for healing your wound. You can apply medicated glycerine on the surface of the wound. Medicated glycerine is not harmful even if it is swallowed. Don't use a tounge cleaner after brushing your teth. Try to avoid spicy and very hot food till the wound is completely healed.

If the cut is severe enough and is continuing to bleed you may have to get stitches. Other than that you may just have to grin and bear the pain for a few days. Suck on an ice cube to help with the swelling and avoid spicy, salty, or hot foods.

To help speed up recovery you can rinse your mouth with either salt water or mouthwash, this will help kill germs and keep away infection. To ease the pain you can suck on something cold such as an ice lolly or drink a cold drink, or you can apply orajel to the cut.
