What can I do about my puppy whimpering at night?

Take a cheap wind-up alarm clock (Baby Ben?), wrap it in a towel and place in puppy's bed. The ticking sound will sound like "mommy's heartbeat" and soothe (distract) the youngster and help him/her fall asleep.

Wrap a wind up clock that is ticking and hot water bag together in a large beach towel and place it in with the puppy. It simulates the warmth and heartbeat that they would hear and feel if they were still with their mother. This will help relax the puppy.

You need to get to the source of the problem and find out why your puppy is whimpering. He probably needs to go potty more often, or maybe he's hungry or thirsty. If he just wants attention, you'll have to train him to be quiet during the night or keep him a different room.

Most puppys like babies need to see their mom and feel safe and secure. You could set up a play pen in your bedroom this way the puppy feels safe and can hear and see you. Also by placing his/her favorite toy in the play pen for comfort.

Dogs are pack animals, they need to feel like part of a pack or else they get nervous and cry for others. One thing that might get your puppy to calm down is to get an old fashioned alarm clock and have it tick next to the puppy as it sleeps. Make sure to turn off the alarm though.

Our puppy came home with a sock stuffed with a handful of her mother's hair. She slept with it, and because it carried her mother's scent, she was perfectly content.

First, make sure your puppy is comfortable. It is also possible she may be hungry or thirsty. Make sure she doesn't need to go the bathroom, and make sure she has something soft to sleep on. Don't provoke the behavior or they will learn to repeat it.
