Warn your child that if this behavior continues, you will be visiting his class for a whole week and sit next to him. Do this only if you can follow through on this threat. Your child will not like to have his mother come to school with him.

You should talk to your son about the importance of respecting authorities like his teacher. Also, you might want to reinforce the reasons that he has to be quiet in class, and emphasize the many times in a day that it is ok for him to talk. Lunchtime, recess, and group work times are fine for conversation.

Have the teacher sign the front of an index card if he was quieter in the morning and the back if quieter in afternoon. Reward your son at home accordingly.

You should explain to him that he is not supposed to be talking in class, not unless the teacher has instructed him to talk. You also should explain to him that if he talks in class and does not listen, then that will affect his grades. Tell him that he will be on punishment if he talks too much.
