You could scare the cat off with a raised voice, particularly if you say the cat's name. Put the cat in a separate room when you have company over.

Just have the people he licks gently push him away. You don't want to do anything mean, like squirting him with a spray bottle, because he's old and is just trying to be affectionate.

This is usually a sign of affection. What you can do about it is possibly give your cat a little tick on the nose
