You are entitled to your fair share of any joint property (including real estate, cash, investments and personal property). You may also ask for financial support for yourself and any children of the union. You may be entitled to a portion of your spouse's retirement fund, whether self-funded or company-funded.

A lot depends on who owns the assets in the family. If you have the bulk of the assets it will be hard to get anything.

The details of a divorce settlement vary based on factors such as your incomes, assets combined and individual and earning potential. Contact a divorce attorney for assistance in determining what you are eligible for in your state.

That depends on the state you live in and how long you have been married. It is best to try and work out assets through mediation.

This of course all depends on what you really want. If there are debts involved as in my situation, I asked for him to pay off those debts since he was the one who got them. Also depending on the state you could ask for alimony as well.

You can ask for things that you want such as; the house, the car, personal belongings and money. This doesn't always mean you will get it. You have to compromise.
