How can I get my husband to help out more?

Immediately stop washing the dishes, taking out the garbage, and washing his clothes. Only clean up after yourself. He will see what he needs to do.

Remind him that marriage is a two way street and set out your needs ver clearly. Then follow up with tons of praise if and when he comes through for you.

You have to please your husband to help in your work. Tell the difficulties when you do that particular work. Don't order him to do that work. Say the work to him when he is in normal or in good mood.

In any relationship, there is give and take. To have your partner help you out more, requires you to also be attentive of their needs and wants.

It's simple for me, with my husband you just have to ask! He understands that I have a lot to take care of and could use help around the house and with errands.
