You can survive a burst appendix, but only in the company of a good surgeon. Typical results of an untreated burst appendix are shock and death. Modern surgeons can fix it, but it's much better to have appendicitis taken care of before it bursts. An appendectomy is considered routine surgery.

An appendix ruptures when it is infected, and the pus inside essentially ruptures it like a balloon. This then spreads the infection throughout the entire abdominal cavity, as well as introduces internal bleeding. While massive doses of antibiotics after surgery have saved some, it is usually fatal.

If your appendix ruptures you can suffer from internal bleeding. Depending on the severity of the condition, the age of the person, the physical conditioning of the person, and how fast they get treatment, one may or may not survive.
