What can cause ulcers in a cat's mouth?

It is not known for sure but farmers believed that ulcers in a cat's mouth were caused by the cat ingesting rats or mice. It is definately caused by something entering into the cat's mouth. Once a cat is removed from their environment the ulcer will usually clear up on it's own.

Some illnesses and infections can cause ulcers in the mouth. The calici virus, one of the main things a cat is vaccinated against, is an upper respiratory infection that causes ulcers in the mouth.

Several things from diseases to chemical burns. If your cat has been fighting it may have contracted something known as FIV (feline aids) and this condition can cause mouth ulcers. If your cat has a habbit of licking things it's possible it has licked something or even if she wears a flea collar, the chemicals that she licked off.
