Scalp tenderness is most commonly caused by dermatitis, or a rash, on the scalp. Any type of skin irritation will cause this tenderness.

Scalp tenderness can be caused by many things. One of the things people fail to think about is their hairstyles. Styles such as ponytails can make scalps feel very tender.

There are many reasons to have a tender scalp. One most common is migraines. Other causes are temporal arthritis, scalp injuries, head lice, tick bites, cellulite, brain tumor, tension headaches, etc. If soreness is constant, see your doctor.

Lots of things can cause scalp problems. Do you have skin allergies to certain foods or animals? A bad reaction to these things can make you scalp tender. You could also have a rash or another skin condition caused by a new shampoo or hair product.
