There are several possible causes: 1) You may have a lumbar disc lesion. 2) You may have peripheral neuropathy, which happens when there is nerve damage in the foot. This is most commonly caused by diabetes. 3) You may have peripheral vascular disease.

If the burning is on top of the instep: it could be that your shoes are tied too tight, or are too narrow for you in the first place. If the burning is on the bottom of the foot: Lack of arch support by your shoes. Can be fixed with better shoes, or inserts/arch supports.

It may be caused by abuse. That is to say, walking too much. Try changing socks, making sure your feet are dry after showering, or using an antimycotic.

It might be plantar fasciatis. The muscles are stretched because of poor stature or because of your shoes. You can do some foot exercises to alleviate the pain.
