There are many different things that can cause a sore eye socket, including physical damage to the outside of the eye, excess pressure in the eye, irritation on the eye itself, and a headache. A lot of times the pain and soreness is the only symptom, there won't be visible symptoms.

You could have an infection of some sort, like an eye cold or pink eye, or you could have bruised it. If the pain persists, see an eye doctor for treatment.

There are many causes such as dry eyes, lack of sleep, being in a smokey room, being in front of a television or computer for too long, reading without any breaks, allergies to makeup or perfume, allergies to wool or other animals products, sometimes it can even be due to pink eye. A doctor can determine a good medicine.
