The absolute neutrophil count(ANC)in the body can be lower than the normal for one of two reasons 1. either the body isn't producing the neutrophils in normal quantities or 2. the neutrophils aren't lasting as long as they should. Potential causes for #1 range from blood cancers, to radiation, to B12 deficiency. #2 is typically auto-immune in nature.
