First the reason for the inflammation must be diagnosed by a veterinarian. Treatment usually consists of fluid therapy and lots of rest. Many times the vet will also prescribe pain killers and antibiotics.

Once you have him stable and able to keep food down, he is placed on a low fat, high fiber diet, best bet is a perscription diet.

It depends on the cause of the pancreatitis. If dogs eat something that they are not supposed to (meats high in fat, like bacon, for example), it can result in pancreatitis that will resolve on its own. Fluid therapy and rest is usually what is needed. Pancreatitis due to pancreatic cancer, however, is much more serious.
