they don't tend to do much at this age. They just try to fix their vision, see the colors, learn to sit, listen to something and try figure it out.

By the end of 5 months baby should be able to babble, kick legs, roll over, reach for toys in a raking manner.

There are tons of books on this subject, the best I think is What To Expect The First Year. At five months, he should make sounds, follow you with his eyes, begin to push up, like certain toys, find his fingers and suck on them, and find his toes at times.
