A fasting plasma glucose level greater than 125 is diagnosed as diabetes. Doctors also use the A1c test: values over 5.8-6.1 indicate diabetes (depends on lab standard).

Normal fasting blood glucose is 70–100. A level of 100–125 is considered pre-diabetic while a level above 125 is diabetic. Obtain repeat testing for results out of normal range.

Generally speaking, Fasting Blood Glucose Levels of 126 mg/dL of Blood are indicative of Diabetes. While levels up to 100 mg/dL are normal, levels above 100 mg/dL up to 125 mg/dL are cases of impaired glucose tolerance. The normal values may vary slightly from laboratory to laboratory.
