What belt broke on my self propelled mower if it stopped moving?

I was cutting my grass and my self propelled mower stopped moving.

Like cars, riding mowers have a drive belt that primarily keeps the engine turning. Look up your particular mower brand and find where the belt is located.

It may not be a belt. Most often, self propelled lawn mowers use gears to propel itself. More than likely a gear fell off or stripped out.

Depending on the Mower it may not even have a belt. However, if it does indeed have a belt driven propulsion unit, the belt will be located above the blade on the output shaft of the engine. It will normally be covered by a plate so it is separate from the cutting area.

the belt that goes aroung the crankshaft to the front gear box. this belt powers the front drive wheels and makes the mower move.
