The number one issue is that you are offering to take financial responsibility for an immigrant in the case they cannot find work.

I am considering becoming an immigrant sponsor to help someone from a poorer country help achieve the all american dream of success and to have a better life for their family. The immigrant I will sponsor will come here after they have followed the legal procedure to come here legally.

Think of it like being in the Mafia. You're basically "vouching" for someone that they're worthy to be a US citizen.

It is very important to realize the importance of being diligent in your research. Like what country and what are the rules. If one sponsers an immigrant you just can't quit halfway through the process, you would have make a long term commitment.
