What are they looking for in a lipids test?

Called a Lipid profile test where in it shows the results of your cholesterol, High Density Lipids (good cholesterol), Low Density Lipids (bad Cholesterol) and Tryglycerides. These substances indicate if you have a great risk for Heart ailments and warn you to stop eating too much fatty food.

Cholesterol formation is generally related to the level of low density lipids in the blood stream. A lipids test tells you how high your total lipid or fat level is and breaks it down into Hi density and Low density lipids. Your low density lipids should be around 100 mg/dL.

The fasting lipid panel measures you HDL or good cholesterol, your LDL or bad cholesterol and your trigylercides. Depending on your Framingham risk for cardiovascular events, you have corresponding lipid targets.

You will have to fast from midnight before the blood taking. The lipids test will measure the level of total cholesterol as well as bad and good cholesterol. Good cholesterol will be HDL level while bad cholesterol will be LDL and tryglycerides level. High level of bad cholesterol predispose you to heart diseases.
