Cervical spinal fusion is a surgical procedure, not itself the disease. Neck bones are joined to stabilize the neck after an accident, or as a second-level of treatment for bones affected by arthritis, infection, or other problems, or when the bones are misaligned. During recovery, a neck brace is needed. Some neck stiffness may result, although mobility is usually unaffected.
