Could a spinal fusion cause leg pain?

Anything that has to do with the spine, especially injuries or abnormalities, can certainly cause leg pain. A lot of times when something goes wrong in the spine the legs are affected first.

Yes, spinal fusion can cause leg pain depending on where in the spine the injury took place. Certain areas of the spine control nerves for different parts of the body. The legs are normally controlled by the lumbar vertebra, also known as vertebra L1 to L5, so a fusion between any of these vertebra can cause leg pain.

The spine is a tricky thing. Yes It could pending on where it was fused and if the fusion touched a nerve somewhere. It could be something else and I would consult a doctor.

A spinal fusion could cause leg pains if some of work done is compressing one of the nerves that innervates the legs. Whether this would be a possibility depends upon the level of the vertebral column you have had the fusion at. A good physical exam can than check if the nerves at this level are functioning well.

Spinal fusions are very intricate surgeries usually done as a result of chronic pain with deterioration of the discs and vertebrae. Spinal fusions can be cervical(neck), thoracic(chest)or lumbar(lower back) spine. Manipulation of nerves could be a cause but so could a new herniation at a different area. If the leg pain is new have your surgeon check it.
