If the regulator has problem you fuel pressure would fluctuate. You could hook a pressure gauge to the fuel rail and monitor it under different throttle positions.

The most common problem with bad fuel pressure is really rough idling and stalling. The best thing you can do with it is make sure the fuel is getting to the injectors. Then you can make sure all the injectors are good. Next try some Lucas injector cleaner and see if that helps.

Well, if the engine is running rough and its starting to stumble then there are some problems. Other than that, if the engine is noisy then you can be sure.

A noisy fuel pump, rough idle, stalling out shortly after ignition, fouled spark plugs, and decreased fuel mileage can all be symptoms.

A leaking fuel regulator will allow raw fuel to enter the combustion chamber, leading to spark plug fouling, a misfiring engine and liquid fuel going into the exhaust system - possibly resulting in a fire and a lot of smoke. A closed fuel regulator will result in either a lean or a no-start condition.

When you have bad fuel pressure you are going to notice very rough idleing and also you may not be able to keep the motor started.

You are going to notice rough idling if it even stays started. You will also probably notice it stalling a lot and a lot of smoke coming out of it when it is running.

Well it would have the same symptoms of any other car. Stumbling especially under acceleration is a good sign that there is an issue. To be sure though you should use a pressure gauge between the regulator and the rail. Then compare it to the required pressure.

normally when you have bad fuel pressure it is because your fuel pump is getting weak and you need a new one
