All physicians have undergraduate and medical school degrees (MD or DO). They have passed the national medical boards and are licensed physicians. After the internship, the move to a residency. Plastic surgery is a three-year surgical residency followed by a three-year plastics residency, or an integrated six-year plan, at a minimum. There's nothing easy about it.

Plastic surgeons finish college, attend four years of medical school, complete an internship and then pursue a residency in surgery with a focus on reconstruction or cosmetics. A residency can be three to five years and longer, and is often followed by a fellowship that focuses on a specific area of practice.
