You would graduate from college with a Pre-Law degree, then you would go to law school and complete the post graduate education. Then you would take and pass the Bar exam for your state to get licensed, then you would get hired by a law firm or Government agency.

A person needs to obtain a bachelor's degree, possess strong communication skills, have a good score on the LSAT, attend law school for three years, and pass the state bar.

The absolute shortest amount of time it will take is seven years; Four years for your Bachelor's and three years of Law School. The is ideal but not the norm.
