It is difficult to find physical signs of a pregnant horse until they are late in their term pregnancy. Most mares will not exhibit a heavy looking belly until they are seven to eight months along. You should also be able to feel the foal moving low in the belly.

They will gain weight in their stomach and will look like they have a pot belly. Their bag and udders will also start to swell up. You can get pregnancy tests for horses if you're unsure.

A large animal vet can test the hormones as well as give a physical examination to determine if your horse is pregnant.

Ovulation will stop, your mare will no longer tease "in" to a gelding or stallion. Best way to tell is through palpation by an equine veterinarian. Most changes are not noticeable until late in the pregnancy, when the belly will show movement, and the foal positions into the birth canal. Right before birth a bag will form, containing colostrum.

There are signs to let you know if your horse is pregnant. The signs of a pregnant house are a fuller stomach, the production of milk in her udders, and a calmer disposition than normal. If you are not sure, take her to a veterinarian to find out for sure.

Your mare will no longer show signs of "heat". Gestation is eleven months, most signs will not be noticeable until close to foaling: movement in belly, shape changes to belly, and filling of the udder and teats.

The best thing you can do is have a vet perform an exam and an ultrasound on the mare. This will eliminate all doubts.
