What are the risks of a premature delivery?

I'm told the baby's lungs are strong enough.

It depends how far a long you are. Babies earlier than 34 weeks will often times have to be kept in the hospital longer. Most babies between 34 and 36 weeks have no problems at all. Usually the lungs are not strong enough in preemies. They also don't get the sucking instinct until they are almost term.

Most risks involved with premature delivery are fairly serious though usually not life-threatening. There may be respiratory problems even if the lungs are developed, nutritional issues along with issues with digestion, as well as a host of other problems. Generally the baby will have to stay in the nicu until close to their expected due date.
