Many types of insects may live in pools. Among them are the "bugs" known as backswimmers, water boatmen, water bugs, and water striders, and several varieties of beetles, including water scavenger beetles, predaceous diving beetles and whirligig beetles. They can all stay underwater for long periods of time, but they have to come to surface periodically to get air.
