Not so aggressive, the wrinkly Neopolitan is steady and loyal. Pyreneans are the long hairs. Tibetans are very aggressive and strong willed. Spanish mastiffs are great guard dogs and can weigh up to 250 pounds. The energetic Bullmastiff is a mix between mastiff and bulldog. The Bordeaux is the smaller mastiff and does great with children.
There are approximately 14 types. There is the German mastiff, Spanish mastiff, Neapolitan, Tibetan, English, Old English, Italian, Korean, Japanese, African, Brazilian, French and Argentinian mastiff. All are cross bred.
For the AKC, there are 5 breeds of mastiff dogs. They are the Bullmastiff, the Dogue de Bordeaux, the popular English Mastiff, the Neapolitan Mastiff, and the Tibetan Mastiff. Other breeds have mastiff traits of past bloodlines but are not recognized as a mastiff breed.
