The types of DVD are DVD+R/-R, DVD DL,DVD-RW/-RW, DVD DL(Dual layer) and HD DVD(High Definition). The DVD writable and re-writable disc has to kind of disc which is Region 5 and Region 9. This types has the capacity of 4.7 GB for Region 5 DVD disc, 8.5 GB for region 9 DVD disc and 15 GB for HD DVD disc.

Generally speaking, there are 2 types of DVDs. 1. Store bought DVDs that have content like movies or games, which are read only. 2. Empty DVDs.

DVD-R - Writable DVD for datas. DVD-RW - Rewritable for certain cycles. DVD-RAM - company made or not writable and rewritable. 12cm diameter single-side, Homogeneous Double-sided. 8cm - MiniDVD.
