The Catholic Church is headed by the Pope in Rome, Italy. The head of the Episcopal Church is officially the English Monarch, but actually the Archbishop of Canterbury in England. Other differences are the right of the King of England to divorce, as established by the founder of the Episcopal Church, Henry the 8th.

The Catholic Church answers to the Pope in Rome and holds that he has supreme authority. The Episcopal Church recognizes the Archbishop of Canterbury as leader, but a weak one.
