Bob Marley was suffering from a form of melanoma and, by the time of his death, it had spread to his lungs and his brain. Supposedly, he had picked up a wound at a soccer match and from that would would come his rare form of melanoma. The cancer treatments that he received were unsuccessful.

Bob Marley discovered he had acral lentiginous melanoma (a type of cancer) in July 1977. In May 1981 when Marley was 36 he was rushed in Miami hospital after his vital functions worsened on his was back home from Germany.
