Her death occured on February 8, 2007. She was staying in Hollywood, Florida at the Seminole Hardrock Casino and Hotel. Her friend found her unresponsive and she and Smith's bodyguard both tried to revive her with CPR. She was rushed to the hospital and pronounced dead on arrival. After an investigation, it was determined that she died from drugs overdose.

Smith had access to a number of prescription drugs, some of which she had taken in conjunction with others and shouldn't have, and some of which she took a bit too much of in too short a period of time. The reaction of these medications essentially caused her body to lose it's ability to function properly, specifically, her heart.
