Marine biologists haven't even discovered all the fish that live in the deep sea. Many of the ones we know about have no eyes, because light doesn't penetrate that deep and so the animals have no need to be able to see.
The "creatures of the deep" are creatures that can be found somewhere deep. They can be dangerous and scary depending on your qualification of dangerous and scary. They are quite pale and old though (think elderly people).
