Small, thin brush strokes, rather than exact details. An emphasis on the accurate depiction of the quality of light, unusual angles and ordinary scenes with vibrant colors and little black. Soft edges and intermingling colors caused by applying wet paint to wet paint.

Impressionistic art is characterized by form that are created out of loose brushstrokes rather than tightly defined forms. For instance, a woman's dress will be made up of different-colored, rough brushstrokes. There is no definite outline. Impressionists also liked to depict the changing quality of light and movement.
